Potty Training at Night – A Guide To Successful Night Training

Even when your child is clean and dry during the day, it may well be a few weeks or months before she can master night training. Her body may well be too immature to wake during the night when she needs the potty.

**Most parents wait until their child's diaper is dry**, or nearly dry, when they wake in the morning, **before attempting to night train.** However if you feel that she is ready then why not give it a go.

Choose a night when you are going to give it a go and just try her by leaving off her diaper.

* **Explain to her what she needs to do.**

* Take her to the toilet before she goes to bed.

* **Make sure she has a night light on somewhere for her to be able to see where and what she is doing.**

* Make it clear to her that she is able to call you for help if she wants it.

* **It may well be a good idea to wake her and take her to the toilet before you go to bed to begin with.**

If she wakes in the morning and **she is dry** then make sure that you **give her lots of praise and encouragement.** But, be prepared – not all nights will be dry nights.

As with the day time potty training, **they may have the occasional accident. Deal with these accidents calmly** without making your child feel as if they have done something wrong. Read the above chapter on dealing with accidents and the best way of doing this.
